Asda are doing veg from as little as 20p starting today Wednesday 28th.

What you can get:

Parsnips 500g, were 65p rolled back to 20p.

Carrots 1kg 20p.

Tesco have half lamb leg, half price was £10.50 a kilo now £5.25 a kilo. You can also get a whole leg and a beef roasting joint half price, at £5 per kilo.

Sainsburys have their taste the difference Conegliano Prosecco 75cl, was £10 now £8 plus buy any 6 or more and save 25% make it just £6 a bottle.

Food is one of the things in life that we need to have. How can you save money on this essential item in your life? The best tip I have to save, is to get reduced items. Supermarkets all have different times of when they reduce their items. I will share these with you below.

Best things to get.

Fruit and veg

As fruit and vegetables have dates on it shops have to sell them before that date but normally it will be fine for days as it is still fresh. The best tip is to use your eyes. If it looks good and is a bargain grab it. You can also get vegetables and blanch them for a few minutes and freeze and use when you wish. Berries like blueberries can be popped straight in the freezer and used for breakfast or in smoothies.

Meat

Supermarkets will often have meat reduced and this is great to pop straight in the freezer and use at a later date as long as its frozen on that day it will be perfectly fine for up to 3 months.

Sandwiches and bread

If you work nights these will be perfect to take to work with you. If you want you could take to work the next day for everyone else. Just be careful with filings like egg, tuna, and prawns. With bread, you can do the same and pop in the freezer and use when you need. Or leave frozen and take bits out when you need to for toast and defrost by using the defrost button on the toaster.

Whats stores and when

Asda: Often start around 7pm,most bargains are gone by 9pm.

Co-op: 50% around 5pm, 75% around 8pm.

Marks and Spencer food: Final reductions about 6:30pm for stores that close at 7pm and around 8pm for those that close at 9pm. Some start reductions just after lunch.

Morrison’s: Reductions tend to start late morning/lunchtime but dont have a set policy so its up to the individual store manager.

Sainsbury’s: Officials have said that its store dependent. Some stores start around 1.30pm, others say big reductions start around 7pm.

Tesco’s: Some stores can start as early as 8pm and bigger discounts early evening bewteen 6pm and 7pm. I find my local tescos has good deals around 5- 5:30pm.

Aldi: Doesnt reduce the price of food over the course of the day.

Lidls: Only seem to have a 30% reduction policy but some say they can put the stickers on up to 3 days before the sell by date.

Waitrose: Some can be as early as 5pm till 6.30pm but people have said they have found bargains as late as 8pm.

Market stalls: I used to work as a greengroccer and on a saturday night we used to have to sell out. As we were not opening up until the next week so had to get rid of the produce we had brought. Most greengroccers will go buy the stock fresh that morning, so unlike the supermarkets, it will last a lot longer. The best times would be from 3pm when prices start getting reduced. Up to 6pm which will be the last few bits, but do check with your local one as they will all have different times.

Education Quizzes

We have just had parents evening for the girls and with Kylie being in her last year of primary school she will be having her SAT’S next year. Her teacher has said that she is below average, we knew she wasn’t the brightest in the class but to hear she is below average it kind of hurts. We are not in a position to be able to get her a tutor and teacher said the only way to get her up to standards is just to practice as much as we can. I did go and get a book from Wilko’s at £2 a book it’s not expensive but what happens after I have had to mark it myself and explain the best I can why an answer is wrong and either throw the book away and get another or save it and add more clutter to the flat.

 

That’s when I came across Education quizzes, an online quiz from KS1 right up to GCSE or should I say beyond as there is a bit for parents and not just a bit about what the kids do there is actual grown-up quizzes, finally something for me as well, sad I know but it’s the little things in life that please me. The parent part is called ‘Parent 999’ and has quizzes from back to school to keeping brains healthy to understanding Asperger’s.

 

So back to the kid’s part as that’s what it’s all about sorry I just got a bit excited about being included too. We have mainly just played the KS1 and KS2 parts as that is what the girls are in now. KS1 subjects are a slightly different to the KS2 ones but so are the lessons at school. Amelia is in KS1 and had a go on a few subjects but as there are so many we haven’t gone on all yet, for example, English has over 100 quizzes for them to try and that’s one subject. As well as English and maths they have a separate section for spelling and times tables. I loved the fact they had times tables as they don’t introduce them at the girl’s school until they are in KS2 so Amelia will be able to have nearly a whole year head start.

 

 

KS2 do have subjects such as Citizenship and Music which will help them for when they do go into KS3. Both girls have really enjoyed playing the quizzes online and I love the fact that whether you get the question right or wrong it explains the reason for the answer, where most quizzes or tests children do it will just be a tick or cross and the child is none the wiser. All quizzes say the date that your child last did them and what their score was, which is great if you want to go back to a subject to see if they have improved.

 

A bit about Education quizzes

Education quizzes are written by teachers and are very upfront about the £9.95 monthly fee which can be canceled anytime. They also offer a programme to schools where they can pay on behalf of the students for as little as £2.00 per year depending on the size of the school. Which is great as not every parent can afford the monthly fee. Their number one objective is to help children to be successful in school and to make learning fun and enjoyable.
